Subject: Budget parameters: Why is transportation being added for Trombly without a budget-neutral plan?
Dear Board Member, My name is [[Your Name]]. I am writing to express concern about the proposed 2026–27 Budget Parameters, specifically Parameter 4, which now references students “South of Jefferson” and fails to establish any cost targets. While expensive, students in the former Poupard catchment deserve transportation; their school has been sold and demolished and their elementary students deserve safe and easy access. Trombly Elementary has been closed since 2022, yet the Board has not presented a clear plan to reopen the school despite sufficient enrollment shown in the District’s headcount survey. Referencing transportation needs for this area without a reopening plan suggests an assumption that families south of Jefferson will continue to lack access to a walkable neighborhood school. Enrollment capture has continued to decline since Trombly’s closure. Reopening Trombly as a PreK–Elementary school remains the only budget-neutral plan presented and is a critical step toward stabilizing enrollment and serving families equitably. I urge the Board to align the budget parameters with a clear, budget-neutral, and actionable plan to reopen Trombly. Sincerely, [[Your Name]]
