Subject: Please Analyze Survey Before Allocating Money to Educational Enhacement Hub
My name is [[Your Name]]. I am writing to you regarding the recent resolution authorizing the use of Trombly Elementary School as an Education Enhancement Hub. While I appreciate the board’s intent to maximize the value of district-owned properties and meet a range of community needs, I respectfully urge you to reconsider the immediate priorities for Trombly through a more data-driven and community-centered lens. Throughout past discussions, the district leadership emphasized that future decisions would be made based on data and community needs. The headcount survey data should be thoroughly analyzed to ensure that any investment made at Trombly — and, by extension, throughout the district — is guided by strategic, data-backed planning. Currently, families across our district are seeking two critical educational resources: * Affordable, accessible preschool options located within neighborhoods, and * Walkable, community-centered elementary schools. Both of these needs align strongly with the original purpose of Trombly as a neighborhood elementary school. Before transforming Trombly into a multipurpose cost center — especially given our district’s already strained financial resources — I respectfully request that the Board more deeply analyze enrollment trends, neighborhood needs, and the financial impact of maintaining Trombly for early childhood and elementary education. Preschool and early elementary programs at Trombly could not only meet a growing family need but could also drive enrollment districtwide. A strong, local early childhood program would serve as a model for revitalization across all seven elementary school neighborhoods, helping to stabilize and even grow district enrollment over time. Rather than fragment our focus, we should start with strategic, high-demand offerings at Trombly and build from that foundation. A comprehensive study of neighborhood demographics, preschool waitlists, and parent priorities should inform the best use of Trombly — and the district should clearly communicate how these findings drive decision-making. I respectfully urge the Board to delay authorizing Trombly as an "Education Hub" until a detailed, data-backed plan is developed — one that prioritizes core educational offerings, strengthens neighborhood schools, and supports the long-term vitality of the Grosse Pointe Public School System. Thank you for your time and continued commitment to our community. I look forward to seeing how Trombly’s future will reflect the thoughtful, strategic planning that GPPSS families have been promised. Sincerely, [[Your Name]]
